Two people were killed and a 6-year-old child was seriously injured in a head-on collision on Thursday morning in Lubbock County, Texas, according to authorities.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:34 a.m. along FM 1585 near the intersection with County Road 1100.
Crash Details
Investigators reported that an SUV driven by 49-year-old Joseph Ellis was traveling eastbound on FM 1585 when, for reasons still under investigation, it crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming pickup truck.
Authorities confirmed that Ellis and his passenger, 49-year-old Gina Ganaway, both died at the scene due to the severity of the impact.
A 6-year-old boy who was also inside the SUV sustained serious injuries and was transported to University Medical Center Lubbock for emergency treatment. His current condition has not been released.
The driver of the pickup truck suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Officials stated that the cause of the SUV drifting into oncoming traffic remains unknown at this time. The crash remains under active investigation as authorities work to determine the factors that led to the collision.
